Board Certified Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon Dr. Todd Sawisch

Todd Sawisch, D.D.S., earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery at the University of Detroit Mercy, School of Dentistry. He completed a surgical residency program in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at University of Miami School of Medicine’s prestigious Jackson Memorial Hospital.

During his residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital, Dr. Sawisch spent four passionate years working with world-renowned surgeons Dr. Robert Marx, Dr. Stuart Kline, and Dr. Eric Carlson in the specialty of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. The specialized training focused on head and neck cancer, tumor surgery, and reconstruction of severe facial deformities, secondary to disease and facial trauma. Dr. Sawisch also has extensive training in implant dentistry using platelet-rich plasma (PRP) with advanced bone grafting procedures to aid in dental implant reconstruction. Dr. Sawisch was awarded the “Outstanding Surgical Skills Award” by the surgical faculty upon graduation.

Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon Dr. Jennifer Schaumberg 

Jennifer Schaumberg, D.D.S., received her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan,  then achieved her doctorate degree in Dental Surgery at the University of Michigan, School of Dentistry. She completed both her internship and residency training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida. In addition to her education in dentoalveolar, orthognathic surgery and dental implants, Dr. Schaumberg brings to our practice, advanced training in facial cosmetic, tumor, reconstructive, pre-prosthetic surgery and craniofacial trauma.

Dr. Schaumberg is actively involved in the American Associaiton of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternitry, The American Dental Association, Florida Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Academy of Implant Dentistry and is board eligible. She is an active member of Hadassah, Magen David Adom, Federation and AIPAC.

Facial Cosmetic Surgery

There are many factors which cause the skin to wrinkle and sag;  prolonged exposure to the sun, genetics and of  course the natural aging process. Children and young adults have smooth, round faces due to fatty tissue that is evenly distributed throughout the contours of the face. As we age the skin loses elasticity and no longer fits firmly around the facial structure. The increased loss of elasticity creates folds making wrinkles more prominent, especially around the chin, the jaw line and along the neck.

The Four Dimensional Facelift

A traditional “facelift” was simply a skin-stretching procedure. Patients often complained of the tight, “wind-tunnel” look and the results unfortunately lacked longevity. Later, surgeons began repositioning the muscle deep to the skin as well. The results were  longer lasting and a somewhat more natural appearance.

CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing

One of the most exciting and innovative scientific achievements to date is laser technology. Today, development of newer technologies and a clear understanding in the utilization of laser technology by the medical community has resulted in an expanded use of this technology in a wide range of medical and dental applications.

Dr. Sawisch uses the newest technology, the Ultraspeed^TM CO₂ laser from DEKA Lasers, to treat sun-damaged skin, facial wrinkles and scars in a procedure called laser skin resurfacing. Please read Dr. Sawisch's recently published article on "Cosmetic Laser Skin Resurfacing"

The laser is used to reduce tiny wrinkles, acne scars and other minor skin imperfections, especially around the mouth and eyes. It can improve sun-damaged and acne scarred skin problems that often cause concern to both men and women.
